You do want your blog readers to feel some commitment to you because that means they are loyal. Increasing your RSS subscribers is one way to drive back targeted traffic to your blog. But, you know, what this really means for those who neglect RSS is they are not looking at their tools in the right way. You have to make smart use of RSS, and the way to do that is by marketing in such as way that people become subscribers.

Most people really never think about RSS or why it matters, and that is where you can come in and explain that to them. Sure, people may see the RSS icon, but we are certain very few of them know how the whole thing works. We have seen just a few blogs that had a whole post dedicated to explaining the benefits of subscribing to their RSS feeds. Above the fold on any site you have is the ideal location for your RSS graphical icon. Most blog themes will automatically place it at the top right in the right hand column, but you should do more with that. You never want people to ignore your RSS feed, and you could even create a little sales page highlighting all the reasons to subscribe. You can and really should put your icon for that in multiple locations in addition to above the fold so you get maximum exposure.

The subscribers to your RSS feed want to know that they are subscribing to valuable content. If your blog is nothing but rehashed content, why would someone actually subscribe to it? The value that your readers derive from your posts depends on various factors. If you know your audience, you should be able to find something that appeals to the people in it and use that to get them to read your stuff. For example, if your blog talks about technology related news then publishing breaking news might offer your readers the value that they want.

Every blogger dreams of having loyal readership. If you cannot make it as easy as possible for your readers to keep up to date on your blog then you are going to have a hard time both getting and keeping them. So by putting RSS to use, you can make sure that you get the absolute best from your blog because you'll be growing your readership. It may take a little while before you actually see your subscriber numbers go through the roof. If you work toward your goal every day and put in some effort every day you will soon see that your RSS subscriber numbers are getting quite large. Just make sure that you focus your attention on getting as much targeted exposure to your blog as you possibly can.
